In addition, the MRU (Malaysia Rugby Union) have published a notice that “all male and female players who are Muslim participating in the National 7s tournament are required to wear long leggings or tights as an effort by the organisers to promote sharia compliance in line with local values and culture.”

SEA Games 7s 2025
The National 7s, we would think, would be the perfect opportunity for the national team selectors to cast an eye on the talent for the Asia Rugby Sevens Series 2025, and the Southeast Asian Games 2025, the latter of which will be contested in Bangkok, Thailand, in December.
The Asia Rugby Emirates U20 Men’s and Women’s Sevens 2025 will also be taking place in Rajgir, Bihar, India, from 9–10 August 2025 – so the two U21 divisions at the Malaysia National 7s are also key.
Hong Leong Yamaha Motor was announced as the official sponsor of Malaysian rugby’s Sevens teams (the Bungaraya 7s), ahead of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, and has contributed RM200,000 (approximately $ US 50,000) to support the training, development, and welfare of both the men’s and women’s national rugby squads.
The Bungaraya 7s teams won silver and bronze at the 2019 SEA Games and finished as runners-up at the recent Southeast Asian Rugby Sevens Championship 2025 in Singapore.
The Malaysia Rugby Union (MRU) is targeting gold at the SEA Games in Bangkok and has also this year indicated that they are on a global search to identify potential heritage players to be eligible in the national 7s squads.
How To Watch the Malaysia National 7s 2025
We have not seen any confirmation of whether the tournament will be streamed, and the Malaysia Rugby Union website is quite out of date with information. Previously, the games have been streamed via the Malaysia Rugby FB page.
