What’s even more special is having friends and family right there cheering you on.”
The Thai women are sending a much stronger team than last year (when they sent a development side), and will be considered the favourites in 2026. The side recently competed in the HSBC SVNS Division 3 but missed out on promotion to Division 2.
The Thai men are the reigning SEA 7s champions and SEA Games 2025 champions and will be one of the favourites. along with the hosts Singapore and Malaysia. Pol. Lt. Col. Kulthan Prachuabmoh, President of the Thailand Rugby Union, said via their social media, “For the end of the year, we have an important event that Thai sports fans are waiting for and have high hopes for: the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. We will prepare both the men’s and women’s teams as best as we can and will try our best to fight for our parents, siblings, and fellow Thais.”
The TRU and SEARF President added, “Rugby is gaining more and more attention from Thai sports fans. This was evident from the recent SEA Games, where so many people flocked to watch in the stadium that even I found it unbelievable.
We can see that Thais are interested in and are giving their full support to Thai athletes. As the president of the Rugby Association, I would like to ask Thais to continue supporting the Thai national rugby team in this way, all the way to the Asian Games later this year. Encouragement is very important for athletes.”
