UAERF and Uganda Rugy Union Sign Memorandum Of Understanding
According to the Uganda Rugby Union, they and the UAE Rugby Federation (UAERF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Dubai at the Emirates Dubai 7s 2025.
The MoU was signed by His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Rugby Federation, and His Excellency Godwin Kayangwe Arinaitwe, President of the Uganda Rugby Union.
Initial discussions for a partnership began mid-2025 when Uganda hosted the UAE for the World Rugby Repercharge game against Namibia, and URU president, Mr. Godwin Kayangwe and UAE Rugby Vice-President, Mr. Qais Abdullah Aldhalai, held talks.
The Ugandans said the MoU will “strengthen rugby performance and development in their respective countries.”
The agreement is aimed at:
- Sharing expertise, promoting rugby, and enhancing the capabilities of 15-a-side and 7-a-side national rugby teams in both the UAE and Uganda
- Facilitate professional exchanges, including training opportunities, participation in world-certified courses, joint training camps, and friendly matches
- Uganda’s teams will be invited to events like the Dubai Sevens Series
- Both parties will work on referee exchange programs
- Share best practices in league management
The UAE Rugby Federation announced just before the recently held Emirates Dubai 7s that Apollo Perelini, Executive Director of the Federation and Head Coach of the national teams, will be stepping away from his role after a decade.
