CASA 7s Tashkent 2026 – Tournament Preview
Six Women’s and six Men’s teams will compete in CASA 7s Tashkent 2026 for the alliance’s first tournament, which will take place from 16-17 May.
Gerald (‘Gerry’) Prabhu, the Honorary Secretary of Rugby India and an Asia Rugby Executive Committee member, told us in an interview that the CASA members would be signing a two-page memorandum on May 15. As part of the agreement, there is no financial model, and whoever hosts will cover costs; unions can raise funds through sponsorship, and participating members will try to contribute in some way
He added that the decision was to start with a Senior tournament. “This being the first tournament, it is going to be challenging because there is no established setup, but we have to start somewhere. By doing this, we create not only a player pool, but a set of people with skills and experience to be match commissioners, organisers, and also try to give experience to the referees as well. So not only for the players, it’s for the match officials as well.”
UPDATED RESULTS – Sri Lanka Men and Women won the tournament
CASA 7s Tashkent 2026 Competing Nations
Originally, CASA announced and hoped that Tajikistan would make their debut, but ultimately are not competing.
Of the other competing teams, Kazakhstan (5th), India (6th) and Sri Lanka (11th) Women all competed in the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Series 2025 – based on the standings, Sri Lanka would be relegated to the Trophy Series in 2026.
The Uzbekistan Men also finished 11th and should be relegated, while the Sri Lanka Men did very well in their first season back in a while, and were third overall in 2026.
The Uzbekistan women won the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Trophy 2025 and should be promoted to the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Series 2026. For the men, Kazakhstan were crowned champions, and India were runners-up, and both should also be promoted this season.
The Kyrgyzstan Men placed in the bottom four of the Trophy tournament last year.
The Kazakhstan Women and Men, as well as the Uzbekistan Men, all competed in the Borneo 7s earlier in 2026, and the Kakakhs are also due to compete in the Costa Blanca Rugby 7s from 23-24 May 2026.

Our understanding is that it’s a round-robin format, so all the teams will play each other.
