Japan women’s national team, the Sakura 15s, will host Spain’s national team as part of the Taiyo Life JAPAN RUGBY CHALLENGE SERIES 2025, and the details for the two-match tour were confirmed.

We had previously announced the series, but the JRFU have now confirmed the name of the series, venues and kick-off times for the newly crowned defending champions of Asia. The Series will be crucial as both teams are in the same pool at the Rugby World Cup 2025 alongside Ireland and New Zealand.

The JRFU said online that Taiyo Life Insurance Company, Limited is are title sponsor of the two matches between the Japan Women’s National Team and the Spain Women’s National Team to be held in Japan in July, and these will be held as the “Taiyo Life JAPAN RUGBY CHALLENGE SERIES 2025”.

These will be the final home matches for Japan before they head to the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 in England. So far in 2025, the team has been undefeated with wins over the USA, Kazakhstan, and Hong Kong China.

According to the current World Rugby rankings, Spain (Las Leonas) are ranked 13th and Japan are ranked 11th.

The two teams last met in Spain in 2023, and the Sakura Fifteen won both matches. The first match, played on July 9th, resulted in a 44-12 victory for Japan, and the second match, played on July 15th, also ended in a Japanese win, with a score of 27-19.
