Lexi Chambers On Her Way For World Record Challenge In Race To Women’s Rugby World Cup England 2025
On Sunday, 10 August 2025, ChildFund Rugby Ambassador Lexi Chambers began her sixth world record bid, in which she is targeting to travel over 480 km from Twickenham’s Allianz Stadium and end in Sunderland’s Stadium of Light for the opening game of the tournament to deliver the whistle for the match that will get RWC 2025 underway.
The record-breaking attempt is equivalent to 10 ultramarathons in 10 days using a non-sport wheelchair in the Race to Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 challenge, representing a message of resilience and determination.
Lexi has fibromyalgia and complex regional pain syndrome, with the latter resulting in her leg being amputated. Despite living with multiple chronic pain conditions, Lexi continues to break boundaries and inspire others to reach for their goals, said a joint statement from World Rugby and ChildFund Rugby, which is World Rugby’s global Social Impact Partner for the tournament.
Along the way, Lexi Chambers will visit local grassroots rugby clubs and communities to promote the inclusive spirit of rugby.
Lexi is using her journey to raise funds and awareness for ChildFund Rugby, which aims to reach 500,000 young people by 2030, using rugby-based programmes to promote leadership, gender equity, and life skills around the world.
“It’s quite overwhelming for a huge women’s rugby fan to have the opportunity to deliver the whistle for the opening of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025. There couldn’t be a bigger honour.
I am also very excited at having the opportunity to start a new world record, one nobody has yet completed – 10 ultramarathons in 10 days. An ultra-marathon is anything over a marathon distance. The generally accepted distance is about 50km (31 miles), so I’m actually going to be doing just over 50km every single day.”
Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 Managing Director, Sarah Massey, added, “This is an incredible moment of anticipation as we count down to a tournament that will showcase the very best of women’s rugby, its passion, power, and purpose. Lexi is marking the beginning of a very special kind of journey, one that captures the true spirit of this Women’s Rugby World Cup.
We are proud to stand alongside Lexi and ChildFund Rugby as they champion the power of sport to change lives.”
ChildFund Rugby Co-Director, Meg Knight, said, “ChildFund Rugby partners from across the world are cheering Lexi on. This incredible feat will support a lasting social impact legacy for girls and women around the world – all powered by rugby.”

Meg Knight added on her own LinkedIn, “It brought back memories of 2023, when I was lucky enough to be one of around 200 cyclists leaving Twickenham for the Eiffel Tower as part of the Race to Rugby World Cup. That year, the whistle for the RWC 2023 opening match was carried by none other than the legend, Ron Rutland.
Today, I joined fellow 2023 rider Steve Blevins and rugby legend Susan Dorrington, along with Lexi’s amazing crew, bright and early to send her off, with thousands more cheering from around the world.
This community has already raised over half a million for ChildFund Rugby over the past decade, and we are aiming for another fifty thousand through this challenge to help more young people, especially girls and women, play rugby and grow life and leadership skills,” said Knight.

Chris Mastaglio, Co-Director of ChildFund Rugby, said, “The ChildFund Rugby team is gearing up for a whole range of exciting events around the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025. All of them focused on showcasing the transformative potential of sport to deliver evidenced outcomes for young people around the world.
This Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 will not only be delivering action in stadiums across England, it will also be delivering outcomes in communities around the world through a global Social Impact Partnership between World Rugby and ChildFund Rugby.”
Rugby Asia 247 will be attending Lexi’s arrival in Sunderland to deliver the whistle and will be attending ChildFund Rugby events in the lead-up to the RWC 2025 opening game in Sunderland. These include the Grassroots to Global roundtable, where we will be speaking with Asian delegates attending, and interviewing Lexi about her amazing journey – stay tuned!
