Fans Guide To HSBC SVNS Series 2024-2025
World Rugby has confirmed the details for the first batch of legs and details of the second revamped HSBC SVNS Series 2025 which will once again kick off with one of the Asian legs in Dubai from the final weekend of November 2024.
The new SVNS format was announced last season, which features 12 women’s and 12 men’s teams, a promotion-relegation system in place, a League Championship and Grand Final (which we still don’t like) and fewer overall events.
With China the newly promoted Women’s team (SA relegated to the Challenger Series) and Kenya and Uruguay Men back in the SVNS as core teams (which also means Samoa and Canada dropped to the Challenger Series), there is plenty of hype around the sport following the Paris 2024 Olympics which sprung a number of surprises.
For Asia, Japan Sakura 7s are the only participating team in the SVNS 2024-2025 Series, while the Argentina men and New Zealand women aim to defend their SVNS league winners titles.
World Rugby Sevens General Manager Sam Pinder said: “We are announcing the first destinations now to allow fans to mark their calendars and get prepared to see the stars of the Olympics shine again in some of the world’s most iconic stadiums and destinations, with the dates for the remaining exciting destinations to be confirmed soon.
The inaugural year of HSBC SVNS, with the introduction of a Grand Final, was undoubtedly the most high quality and hotly contested Series in history with more excitement, jeopardy and entertainment than ever before and fans can expect more thrills in HSBC SVNS 2025.”

HSBC SVNS Series 2024-2025 Format
If the format is the same as last season, the top eight placed teams, based on cumulative series points at the conclusion of the final SVNS event, will secure their opportunity to compete in a ‘winner takes all’ Grand Final where the women’s and men’s SVNS champions will be crowned.
The relegation play-off competition will also take place where teams ranked ninth to 12th in the SVNS will join the top four teams from the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series. The top four-placed teams of this play-off will secure their place on next year’s SVNS (2026).
