Hong Kong China Women XV vs Germany Match Preview
The Hong Kong China Women XV start their uncapped international triangular series “3 Nations Cup” in Germany by playing the hosts on Saturday, 15th November at Fritz-Grunebaum-Sportpark, Heidelberg.
Hong Kong China are the highest-ranked side according to World Rugby’s rankings, in 16th place, with the hosts Germany in 22nd and Belgium in 24th. The last time the HKCR women were in Europe was in 2023, when they played two international test matches against Sweden and the Netherlands.
Since then, they have played the Asia Rugby Championships twice, finishing runner-up, and in the WXV in 2024.
Tumua Ioane is the tour Lead Senior Coach, assisted by Conor Joyce, Kevin Moggridge and Terry Sibanda, all of whom are HKCR Club Coaching Officers.
The matchday 23 for Hong Kong China, even if the side is without its full complement of internationals, still features experienced heads in the form of Fion Got in the front row, and Saracens-based Roshini Turner at lock. Among the reserves are Kea Herewini as co-captain.
There is also a return from injury for Jasmine Fung at fly-half, who co-captains the side, while Grace Hood at centre, and the exciting youngster Uematsu Haruka at fullback, who has been in fine form for Prem leaders Valley RFC and has already represented the HKCR 7s side, who have both been in the side over the past 12-18 months.
A dozen of the mathday 23 come from Valley RFC and HKFC, while Gai Wu provides 5 players.

The Germans are led by new national coach Pierre Mathurin, who said, “A tournament like this as preparation is a fantastic opportunity for us. The girls are really looking forward to it and appreciate having this chance. We’re playing against two really strong teams, and we’ll be able to learn a lot for the challenges ahead. I think this is the perfect preparation for the European Championship.”
He said of the Hong Kong China side, “They’re coming to Heidelberg with a wealth of experience and will be well-coordinated, having spent a lot of time together on their tour. They also play a different style than what we’re used to in Europe. They’re top-class opponents for us.”
There is one HKCR connection in the form of Dubai RC (UAE) based Sofie Fella, who previously played in Hong Kong and is in the German wider squad.
