Women’s Teams
- China

- Spain
- South Africa
- Brazil
- Kenya
China will play Kenya, South Africa, and Argentina on the first day, and Brazil and Spain on day 2.
South Africa’s Head Coach Cecil Afrika has selected two potential debutants for the second leg, with both uncapped Maceala Samboya and Shanidiné Bezuidenhout among the 14 players selected. The team is captained by Nadine Roos (SA Rugby Women’s Player of the Year), and she leads a team which includes 11 players who played in Kenya
Afrika said, “We looked at areas of improvement and worked on those. Our restarts were poor in Kenya, and we did not finish enough opportunities when we were on the attack in our opponents’ half.”
Springbok Women’s Sevens captain Nadine Roos added, “We take nothing for granted from the Kenya tournament, only the log points. We edged Spain, lost to Brazil and it was only against China that we could really get a big win. So we start all over again with our mindset that of expecting the unexpected.
Spain will feel they were close enough to overturn the result, Brazil have the confidence of beating us and China will be looking for revenge. So we are well aware that all of them will be coming for us.”

Men’s Teams
- USA
- Belgium
- Uruguay
- Germany
- Kenya
- Canada
Since the event in Nairobi, the Canadian men played against Japan and Chile in a three-way tournament at the HSBC Vancouver SVNS.
Head Coach of 6th placed Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team, Christiaan Esterhuizen, said, “There’s nothing better than playing in high-pressure matches. The [Vancouver] tournament was a great test for us, and we’re hoping to build on those performances as we continue our preparation for SVNS 2.
“We’re obviously disappointed with the result in Kenya, but we’ve made significant strides defensively over the past few weeks. By improving that area of our game, we believe it will positively impact others as well. Our focus now is on finishing our attacking opportunities and maintaining the fast tempo we showed at the Teck Tri-Nations Challenge. If we can do that consistently, we’re confident we can perform well in South America.”
For the USA men’s 7s Head Coach Zack Test’s selection, there is a return for Ryan Santos, and there are also two potential debuts for Tucker Trickey and Aaron Faison.
Test said, “Kenya gave us great clarity and showed us that we must have consistency in everything we do. At this time of the season, it’s rarely about big changes, but more about executing the small details over and over under pressure. Understanding opposition tendencies is helpful because it gives context to certain moments in games, but ultimately, our priority is making sure we execute our systems and play the way we want to play.”
Uruguay captain, Diego Ardao said: “The first thing we want to do here is to get some better results than in Kenya. We must improve our defence and our attacking. It’s a great opportunity for us in front of our families, friends including those from our clubs. We will take advantage of this opportunity.”
