Robbie Fergusson Leaves Hong Kong China 7s Programme – Joins as Head Coach of Glasgow Warriors Women

Former Scottish and GB 7s international Robbie Fergusson, who moved to Hong Kong in 2024, has been appointed Head Coach of Glasgow Warriors Women and will also support Scotland Women in the role of assistant coach with the national team for the WXV Global Series in 2026.

There was no official announcement from Hong Kong China Rugby, and based on the statement from Scottish Rugby, we are unsure (although it is unlikely) if he will still be involved with the HKCR 7s teams for the upcoming Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Series and Asian Games, which start at the end of August 2026.

The Scotland Women’s WXV schedule starts with a home match against Canada on 12th September before they host New Zealand and Australia. In October, they travel to Australia for two Tests.

Robbie Fergusson will then take on the mantle of the Head Coach of Glasgow Warriors Women for the 2026/27 Celtic Challenge season (fixtures still TBC), a club at which he played and joined in 2015.

Scottish Rugby Head of Women’s Performance and Pathways, Andy Rhys-Jones, said: “After a thorough recruitment process, we are pleased to appoint Robbie as Head Coach of Glasgow Warriors.

Robbie is an exciting coach who has experienced a wide range of high-performance environments throughout his playing and coaching career. Those experiences have given him a strong understanding of the standards required to build a successful programme. Having previously represented Glasgow Warriors, he also brings a first-hand understanding of the club’s identity and ambitions.”

On the international stage, he played for both Scotland 7s and Great Britain 7s and competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 and two Commonwealth Games. He also represented Scotland at age-grades through to the U20s level, featuring at the Junior World Championships in 2012 and 2013.

Robbie Fergusson, said via Scottish Rugby: “I’m really looking forward to the opportunity ahead. I know the club well and how ambitious it is, and it’s an exciting time for the women’s game in Scotland. I’m keen to help contribute to both the success and development of a strong Glasgow Warriors women’s team.”

Fergusson has been playing rugby with HKFC these past two seasons and has been an integral part of the HKCR 7s coaching setup since he joined ahead of the 2024/25 season. The Men are serial Asian champions and won the Chinese National Games, while the Women are regularly in the top 3-4 in Asia.
