Shizuoka Blue Revs Form Partnership with Malaysian National Rugby 7s Teams

Shizuoka Blue Revs and Malaysia Rugby recently met to discuss a partnership, and the Japanese JRLO Division 1 club have now confirmed they will be supporting the Malaysian Sevens Rugby 7s (Bunga Raya) national teams at the 20th Asian Games 2026.

The partnership is off the back of Yamaha Motor’s strong presence in the Southeast Asian country, where they have more than 50% of the motorcycle market share. Hong Leong Yamaha Motor, the local Yamaha Motor Malaysia representation, helped lead a consultation with Shizuoka Blue Revs, which is also part of the Yamaha Motor group.

On August 9th 2026, President and CEO of the Shizuoka Blue Revs, Takushi Yamaya, travelled to Selangor, Malaysia for a Yamaha event and then met with Malaysia Rugby the following day.

The Shizuoka Blue Revs will make their training facilities available as a pre-Games training camp for both the men’s and women’s Sevens teams. They also said there are discussions around further collaboration, such as coaching by Shizuoka Blue Revs coaches and information exchange.

The report from the Japanese club indicated that the Malaysia Women’s 7s will also participate in joint training sessions and practice matches with Japanese club Azalea Seven.

The 2026 Asian Games Rugby 7s will take place in Nagoya, Japan from 1-3 October at the Paloma Mizuho Rugby Stadium. The Malaysia Men are in Pool A with Hong Kong China, China, and Uzbekistan, while the Women are in Pool B with China, Hong Kong China, and India.

Shizuoka Blue Revs have previously signed partnerships with clubs such as Toulouse in France and Bay of Plenty in New Zealand. In the off-season, they have signed several players such as Max Douglas, Eiji Tsuchiya, Aki Tuivailala (Former Chiefs and Crusaders) and Antonio Shalfoon (Former Crusaders), as well as Wallaby Hunter Paisami.

The JRLO 2026-2027 season gets underway in December.
