Singapore Select XV Hosts HKCR Dragons Women and Men

The Singapore Select XV Women and Men will host the HKCR Dragons for matches on Saturday, 20th June 2026. These are non-capped development matches and also the first time the HKCR Women’s XV Dragons have played overseas.

Hong Kong China has previously confirmed their women’s U23s would take part in a camp and travel to Singapore to play before returning to Hong Kong to play a squad from the Hong Kong China Dragons Programme on 4 July.

The Dragons previously played exhibition curtain-raiser matches at Kai Tak Stadium as a warm-up to the HKCR Men’s XV playing Japan XV in October 2025.

This HKCR Women’s Dragons side’s Head Coach is Royce Chan, who moved into the Women’s Rugby Development Lead in Feb 2026.

The former HKCR 7s and XV rep said, “For many players on the team, this will be their first exposure to an overseas playing environment, which is an important part of their development. The match will allow us to assess where our players’ currently stand and identify areas for further growth. More importantly, it gives them the chance to demonstrate that they are capable of progressing into future Hong Kong China representative squads.”

All coaches involved with the Dragons Women have previously represented Hong Kong China, including the most capped Women’s XVs player, Lee Ka Shun.

HKCR national Women’s XV are still without a permanent Head Coach, but they are hosting the WXV Global Challenger Series in September 2026. They were runners-up in the AREWC 2026, losing to Japan and drawing with Kazakhstan.

The Singapore Women’s national XV team participated in the SEA Women’s Championship XVs 2026 in February, defeating the Philippines and drawing with hosts Malaysia and were runners-up.

In 2025, the Singapore Select XV Men defeated the HKCR Dragons Men 37-0. The senior Men’s XV team has participated in the Unions Cup for the past two years and will again compete in July 2026 in Thailand.

The HKCR Men’s Dragons Programme Lead is Hong Kong China Men’s Sevens record cap holder and double Asian Games gold medallist Salom Yiu Kam Shing.

“Last year the squad we sent to Singapore was made up of young players and several senior members. Although the result was not ideal, the experience was very important for the players’ development.

We have retained several core players from last year, while also adding some new faces. Overall, we have improved in terms of our experience, tactics, and fitness. The players also have a deeper understanding of our game plan, so we believe the team is stronger compared to last year.

He added, “The Dragons Programme is an important bridge between club rugby and representative rugby.

Many of these players have the ambition and potential to play at a higher level. Through the programme, we can provide a structured environment, high performance coaching, and meaningful match opportunities to help them continue their development.

I’m excited to see both teams in Singapore and hope they embrace the opportunity, enjoy the experience, and continue pushing themselves to improve.”

HKCR Women’s Dragons XV – Squad Tour to Singapore

Royce Chan, who has also coached the Hong Kong Women’s XV previously, said, “Given that most of the players come from HKCR Premiership A or community club backgrounds, and our coaching staff are stepping up from assistant coaching roles in their local clubs, this tour is a safe but challenging environment to accelerate their growth.

The coaching staff are showing tremendous potential. This tour is just as much about their pathway as it is for the players. The objective is to give them a platform to transfer their club playing and coaching experience into a representative environment, learning how to manage a squad on tour and developing their leadership for the long-term benefit of Hong Kong rugby.”

How To Watch Singapore Select XV vs Hong Kong China Dragons

The matches all take place on Saturday, 20 June 2026, at MOE (Evans) Stadium, Singapore (although SRU says its called CCAB Stadium).

Initially, only a Hong Kong China Women’s U23s vs Singapore match was announced by HKCR, but Singapore Rugby confirmed three matches will take place. This included:

• Singapore Development U25 Women vs Hong Kong China Dragons Uni Women – 4 PM on June 27th 

We have never seen a U25 age-grade team before, but it’s great to see both unions develop their depth in Women’s XV.
