Taiyo Seimei Women’s Sevens Series 2026 Round 1 Kumagaya

The Taiyo Seimei Women’s Sevens Series (WSS) 2026 Round 1 gets underway from 20-21 June at the Kumagaya Rugby Stadium, with the top 12 Japanese women’s teams competing and showcasing local and international talent.

Many of the teams have already been involved in tournaments this year in preparation, such as the Nanairo Cup, Pearls Rugby Festival 2026, and the Pirika Mosori 7s.

There is also a planned exhibition match on Sunday by the Japan National Deaf Team Selection Players vs. Rissho University as Japan is hosting the Deaf Rugby Sevens World Championship in Tokyo from October 31st to November 3rd 2026.

Taiyo Seimei Women’s Sevens Series 2026 Format

• Two Challenger Tournaments will get the Series underway, followed by 3 regular tournaments with the 12 core teams – Kumagaya, Tochigi and Kitakyushu, culminating in a Grand Final Tournament in Sapporo
• 12 core teams include the eight top-ranked teams from the 2025 series, and four teams that were successful in the 2025 promotion-relegation series
• The 8 top-ranked teams from the 3 regular tournaments will compete for a spot in a winner-takes-all Grand Final
• The bottom four-ranked teams will face the top four-ranked teams from the Challenger Tournament in a promotion-relegation series played alongside the Grand Final Tournament (as in last season).

For fans attending, there is free admission, and all seats are unreserved.
