Asian Rugby Emirates Trophy Sevens 2025 – Oman
The Asian Rugby Emirates Trophy Sevens takes place this coming weekend in Muscat, Oman, from 25–26 October, with 21 national teams from 17 nations (14 Men’s and 7 Women’s) competing.
Much still needs to be announced, such as pools, which teams, and if the two men’s and women’s sides will earn promotion to the ARESS 2026 (we believe the top two men’s and women’s teams will earn promotion).

Chinese National Games 2025 – Hong Kong
The 15th National Games take place from 12-14 November at Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong for the 7s rugby teams as the Hong Kong Jockey Club Trophy Rugby Sevens Competition.
The National Games of the People’s Republic of China are held once every four years, and are the country’s highest-level national sporting event.
The Chinese have been focusing on these as a priority and didn’t even send their full men’s national team or coach to Colombo; instead, they had the mostly the Shandong provincial team and a South African coach (former Southern Kings coach), Vuyo Zangqa, representing them.
The women have been the same, with most of the core national team players training with their provinces, hence why 12 new players represented China in Colombo.
The National Games will feature players and teams from China (through various provinces) which includes Hong Kong.

Although this is the first stop of the six-leg Series for the top 8 women’s and men’s teams on the 2025-2026 calendar, it is not one of the three championship rounds, which features 24 teams.
From Asia, the Japan Sakura 7s will be competing.

SEA Games 2025
The SEA Games features rugby for the first time since 2019, and will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, in mid-December (13-14), with the teams still to be confirmed but women’s and men’s teams are competing.
The Rugby Sevens at the 2025 SEA Games is due to be played at the Dhupatemiya Stadium, Royal Thai Air Force Sports Complex.
We can expect that from the recent ARESS 2025, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand (as hosts), will all be involved. Other nations which might compete are Laos and Brunei.
Cambodia, Vietnam, Timor-Leste and Myanmar are unlikely to feature in the rugby 7s events.
