Uzbekistan Rugby said via its socials, “Uzbekistan women’s rugby 7s team is the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Trophy 2025 champions!”
The Indian men were coached by former England 7s international and former Fiji 7s coach Ben Gollings. He said, “I’m incredibly proud of this team. In a short span, the players have shown immense dedication, focus, and teamwork. Achieving promotion to the top-tier Sevens Series is a significant milestone. While the final wasn’t ours, this experience lays a strong foundation as we continue to grow.”According to the Asia Rugby stats (which are not always accurate),
Uzbekistan’s Aynura Abzeiva was the tournament’s top womens point scorer with six converted tries (42 points), and in fact, three of her team were in the top five!
For the men, Kazakhstan’s Nikita Sitov was the top try scorer with 8, but Bahrain’s Greg Heath was the joint-top points scorer with four tries and 11 conversions (42 points).
South Korea women beat Jordan 17-0 to claim bronze – it was their first international tournament in many years. Afghanistan beat Saudi Arabia 17-12 to win bronze in the Men’s competition.
