The Borneo 7s 2026 takes place from 11-12 April at the Eagles Rugby Club Stadium, Sandakan, Sabah and the confirmed teams reveal a strong Asian team mix.
The Borneo Sevens Rugby Tournament was inaugurated in 2001 and has since been officially sanctioned by Asia Rugby, Malaysia Rugby and the Sabah Rugby Union. The 2026 edition will be the 21st time the tournament has been held.
The timing of the tournament this year, the weekend before the Cathay HSBC Hong Kong Sevens rugby week gets underway, has probably impacted the tournament, as many national teams and top-quality touring teams will be in Hong Kong for the various tournaments.
However, there are several national Asian 7s teams from Indonesia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan in attendance at the Borneo Sevens 2026.
Competing Teams & Pools – Borneo 7s 2026
Neither the Men’s nor Women’s teams, which won in 2025, will be back to defend their titles in 2026 – the Shaheen 7s men (UAE) and Hua Gan Guo Ji (China).

The Women’s Borneo Sevens competition has been won over the years by teams from Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Japan, and New Zealand/Malaysia combinations.

Borneo Fest 2026
As has increasingly become the norm for 7s tournaments, the Borneo 7s has taken on a Festival approach with the Borneo Fest 2026 for three days at the Eagles Rugby Club Complex.
For visitors, there is a wide selection of food and beverages, cultural performances showcasing Sabah’s rich heritage, souvenirs and memorabilia.
A FORGE – Hybrid Endurance Race will be held in conjunction with the Borneo Sevens in collaboration with BCG Fitness Labuan and Hustle Fitness Kota Kinabalu.
