Taiyo Seimei Women’s Sevens Series 2026 Round 2 Tochigi

The Taiyo Seimei Women’s Sevens Series (WSS) 2026 Round 2 gets underway from July 11-12, 2026, at the Honda Green Heat Stadium, Tochigi, as the top 12 Japanese women’s teams compete again, showcasing local and international talent.

This is the first time the tournament has taken place in Tochigi, and the JRFU have said that matches will start later than usual to contend with the warm weather (fixtures kick off at 3pm).

Taiyo Seimei Women’s Sevens Series Round 2 2026 Pools

Nagato Blue Angels won the 1st round, and the pools were determined based on the standings after that round in Kumagaya.

Since the opening round, some teams have bolstered their squads. TKM Yokohama (who were 11th in the opening round) re-signed Yolaine Yengo, who was with them last season (and has played for France 7s), and signed Canadian 7s 3x Olympian Charity Williams, who was with the Tokyo Sankyu Phoenix last season and competed in the recent HSBC SVNS Series. They both are in the squad this weekend.

The Nanairo Prism Fukuoka have, since Round 1, confirmed that Fijian 7s star Reapi Ulunisau has re-joined the club. She became the first Fijian woman to score 100 tries on the HSBC SVNS Series this year.

Tokyo Sankyu Phoenix’s new recruit, who has come off a long-term injury recovery, is Temalesi Rayasi, and she hopes to be fit for this round. “For this second tournament its pools of three teams, so the first day really matters. I feel like in the first tournament, we all collectively knew that wasn’t our best.

We also have two other players joining us back from injury, so just to see the new players included in the selection makes me want to get back in even more and just prove that I’m useful and I can deliver for them.”

Japan Men’s 7s Cap Ceremony

During the tournament, the JRFU will be holding a cap presentation ceremony to honour the contributions of those who hold caps for the Japan Men’s Sevens national team, including team staff and tournament officials. This will take place after Match 4 on Saturday, July 11th (around 16:25 local time).

Taiyo Seimei Women’s Sevens Series 2026 Format

• Two Challenger Tournaments will get the Series underway, followed by 3 regular tournaments with the 12 core teams – Kumagaya, Tochigi and Kitakyushu, culminating in a Grand Final Tournament in Sapporo
• 12 core teams include the eight top-ranked teams from the 2025 series, and four teams that were successful in the 2025 promotion-relegation series
• The 8 top-ranked teams from the 3 regular tournaments will compete for a spot in a winner-takes-all Grand Final
• The bottom four-ranked teams will face the top four-ranked teams from the Challenger Tournament in a promotion-relegation series played alongside the Grand Final Tournament (as in last season).
