Sakura 7s Mei Otani said after the tournament in Perth, “After the Singapore tournament, we focused on communication between players and took on this tournament. Although it wasn’t the result we had hoped for, I think it was another good step for the team heading into the remaining tournaments.
We will take this result to heart and reflect on what we learned this time and work on it when we return to Japan. We will also focus on the quality of our communication and work hard together to make a breakthrough at the next Vancouver tournament.”

The Australian women could see the return of Demi Kennewell (nee Hayes), who makes her return after close to nine months on the sidelines with an ACL injury. Alysia Lefau-Fakaosilea, Teagan Levi and Kaitlin Shave are rested for Vancouver but will join the squad in New York the week after.
The team will also now be without talisman Charlotte Caslick for the foreseeable future after she announced her pregnancy.
Coach Tim Walsh said, “Our aim is to finish the series with precision and a ruthless edge, finalising all the pieces of the puzzle for a World Championship series performance reflective of the Aussie Sevens way. Vancouver brings snow outside with a bouncy summer feel inside the indoor BC Place. It’s one of the unique and true attractions of this beautiful sport, and adaptability is an attitude, and we choose to survey, adapt and perform.”
Canada’s Carissa Norsten said: “We’re feeling really good. We have a couple of older girls who are back in the squad for this tournament who weren’t here for the last one, so we’re really excited to see them on the field again.”
She added of playing at home, “It’s a feeling like no other. You can just feel the support coming from all around you in the stadium. It’s so exciting and so fun.”

Blitzbok head coach Philip Snyman made six changes to the squad that returned victorious from Perth. Springbok Sevens Impi Visser will captain the side in Vancouver as he closes in on his 50th World Series tournament. The South African Men see the return of Selvyn Davids, Ronald Brown, and Dewald Human – all set to return from injury, while there is also a potential debut for Grant de Jager.
Snyman said, “Selvyn, Ronald and Dewald are senior playmakers in the squad, and to have them all back is great, especially as Luan Giliomee is with the Junior Boks in Georgia. Overall, it is an experienced and exciting squad that will travel and knowing that those players staying behind are pushing hard and creating an environment of competitive excellence, is a good place to be at for this group.”

Argentina’s Santiago Alvarez said, “We’ve come from Argentina, it’s hot there now, so we’re trying to get comfortable here. But we’re looking forward to the weekend. Vancouver has been a good place for us. We’ve won some championships here, but we’re a new team, we’re trying to be better each day.”
The Australian men could see the return of Maurice Longbottom, Dietrich Roache, and James Turner, who have all been cleared for action after recent injuries. Longbottom will bring up 50 events in the World Series when he plays next. There is also a potential debut of Archie Saunders.
Coach Liam Barry said, “We welcome back Maurice, Dietrich and James to the team and look forward to their input. It’s a really special moment for Archie Saunders and his family as he looks to represent the Australian Sevens team for the first time.
For Maurice to play his 50th tournament in Vancouver is an incredible achievement for a player who has had a huge influence on this programme.”
Fiji have also announced a potential debutant in Vancouver as Akuila Dranivotoa has been selected in the touring squad, which is captained by Jeremaia Matana.

Teck Tri-Nations Challenge 2026
The same as last season, the Vancouver SVNS will host a mini tournament, which this year is called the Teck Tri-Nations Challenge, across the two days (similar to the Melrose Claymores in Hong Kong) with the hosts, Canada, as well as Japan and Chile involved.
The organisers said, “The inclusion of this tournament will allow fans to witness six additional action-packed rugby matches featuring Canada’s Sevens stars. Facing formidable opponents in Japan and Chile, fans will be gifted thrilling, physical, fast-paced matches at no extra cost.”
The three-team tournament will feature a round-robin tournament (6 matches in total) but won’t be subject to players earning caps, said the JRFU
