Both Defending Champions NZ Black Ferns and Fiji Retain HSBC Singapore SVNS 2026 Titles
The Fiji Men turned around a 12-point deficit to run in 21 points in their second half against 2024 Olympic Gold Medalists France, while the New Zealand women’s team crushed their fierce rivals Australia 36-7 as both teams defended the titles they won in 2025 at the HSBC Singapore SVNS.
Viwa Naduvalo was the Men’s Player of the Final in Singapore as his side scored three tries in the second half from himself, Kavekini Tanivanuakula and Pilipo Bukayaro, to turn the game around and win 21-12.
Naduvalo said: “Credit to the boys for giving their effort – we work together as a unit and we came up with the win. I made my debut here, so it’s like playing at home. Yes, Singapore is a great place to play.”
New Zealand beat South Africa 14-12 to claim the third-place play-off thanks to a wonderful Michael Manson’s winning try.

Jorja Miller was the Women’s Player of the Final as they comprehensively beat Australia 36-7, and they had a big win in the semifinal too over the USA 44-7. The win in Singapore makes it three-in-a-row for the Black Ferns 7s.
Miller said, “I’m so stoked and proud of the girls. It’s been an awesome atmosphere in a beautiful city.”
The results on the weekend see South Africa Men drop from top of the standings to third on the log on 46 points, Fiji, with their first win on the 2026 world series, moved to the top of the table (52 points), and New Zealand are now in second place (48 points).
The NZ Black Ferns 7s now have a two-point lead over Australia on the Series log, but Japan, after finishing a disappointing 7th, drop from 3rd to tied 4th with Canada and France and the USA have claimed 3rd.

Springbok Sevens head coach Philip Snyman was frustrated and disappointed in his team’s fourth-place finish at the HSBC SVNS Singapore on Sunday at the National Stadium as they lost to France in the Semifinal and to NZ in the 3rd place play-off.
“There was no lack of effort out there, but our execution and decision making were not up to standard, and we paid the price for that”

Sakura 7s Have an Off Weekend in Singapore
The sole Asian representation on the HSBC SVNS Series, the Japanese women, had a poor weekend after only beating GB in the final game to finish 7th. After great performances in Dubai and Cape Town, they will need to turn things around in Perth.
Two players made their debuts for Japan on the SVNS Series at Singapore’s National Stadium, and both also scored tries across the weekend: Hazuki Ouchida, and Haruna Konishi.
Hazuki Ouchida said, “Personally, this is my first World Series cap, and I am very happy about it. Although the result was not what I had hoped for, each game in my first world-level match was extremely tough, and this tournament made me clearly identify my own challenges and those of the team. I would like to use this experience to continue to grow.”
Captain Haruna Utsumi added, “We are very disappointed that we did not achieve the result we hoped for. There were many difficult moments throughout the two days, but we also learned and realised a lot. We will think about what we can improve from this result and act on it before the next tournament. We will do our best to challenge ourselves and do our best to win by focusing on what we have been working on. We appreciate your continued support.”

HSBC SVNS Singapore 2027 Dates Confirmed
The tournament has already announced the date for next season, and the HSBC SVNS Singapore will return to The Kallang on 30 & 31 January 2027.
There was a noticeable downturn in fan attendance at this event (officially claimed to be 40,000 fans across the weekend), partially due to the change of its regular date, so hopefully the long run-in for 2027 will yield a bigger crowd.
Stay tuned – as we have interviews with both Danny Care and Ruby Tui coming soon….
