Despite the home-field advantage 0ver the UAE, the Malaysian-based Star Online reported prior to the game, that Malaysia would struggle with the national U19 coach, Farid, saying “We lack the necessary preparation. It’s difficult to prepare a strong team in just 10 days of training and choose the best players for the two matches…The players did not get to play even a friendly match. I’ve to find the right combination to play the two matches in a short time.”
