The long-running and popular Phuket social rugby tournament will be taking place from 9-11 June 2023 at the Thanyapura Phuket Sports and Health Resort, but this year is being run as an 11s rugby tournament to trial new rules.
Dimbulla Phuket International Rugby 11s 2023
The Phuket social tournament will again run for three days and it attracts regional and international rugby sides.
The organisers had already said in December 2022, that the 2023 Phuket International Rugby 10’s Men’s Open Tournament was almost full as were the Athena Siam Coffin Dodgers O35s (Vets) slots.
In March 2023, they announced the event will be played as an 11s tournament to trial new rules: “We are pleased to announce that the Phuket International Rugby Tournament has been asked to trial a new rugby format in Asia.
The Dimbulla Estate Phuket International Rugby 11s will add a bit of spice to the shorter format of the game, by introducing a N0 8 (6) to the back of the scrum. Being able to pick and go from the base of the scrum, will open up many new opportunities across the pitch.
We look forward to a full 3 days of social rugby and continuing our long tradition of being one of the premier social rugby tournaments in the region.”
- Friday 9th June 2023 – Men’s Coffin Dodgers O 35’s / Men’s One Foot in the Grave O 45’s
- Saturday 10th June 2023 – Men’s Open Round Robin / Women’s Open Round Robin
- Sunday 11th June 2023 – Knockouts & Finals including Vets Finals

Dimbulla Estate Men’s Open Tournament
The Men’s Open Tournament will consist of 16 teams competing in 4 groups of 4 teams in a round-robin stage of 3 games per team on Saturday 10th June 2023. There are a minimum of 2 games per team during the knockout stages on Sunday 11th June 2023.
Men’s Open Tournament matches are one-half of 14 minutes with rugby 11s rules applying.

The Ladies Open features as many as 8 teams competing in 2 groups in a round-robin stage on Saturday 10th June 2023. There are a minimum of 2 games during the knockout stages on Sunday 11th June 2023.
Women’s Open Tournament matches are one-half of 14 minutes with rugby 11s rules applying.

Whitesmiths One Foot in the Grave O 45’s Tournament
Six teams will compete in the O 45s Vets games – which will be 2 x 8 minutes with a 2-minute break. Uncontested scrums unless both teams agree to contested. No kicking outside the 22M is allowed and a 20-metre running rule is in effect.
Anyone wearing oldies coloured shorts cannot be tackled (only touched) and the player must then pass the ball.
